Have you ever visited a place that completely captured your heart? That's Alaska for me.
I've been fortunate to experience Alaska several times, and every trip leaves me wanting to go back. I've cruised from Vancouver to Seward, sailed roundtrip from Seattle visited Keticshoulehikan, Juneau, Skayway and Vancouver, and the best trip ever I explored Alaska by land, rail. Every adventure has shown me something new, which is why I'm so excited to share this incredible destination with others.
In 2023, I traveled over 500 miles across Alaska aboard the Alaska Railroad, beginning in Anchorage and ending in Fairbanks. Along the way, we experienced breathtaking scenery, visited Chena Hot Springs, and hoped to see the Northern Lights. Unfortunately, the skies were cloudy that night—but that's just given me another reason to return!
One of my favorite Alaska experiences is riding the GoldStar Service from Anchorage to Seward. If you've never taken this train ride, you're in for a real treat. Between the panoramic dome windows, delicious breakfast (yes, they even serve reindeer sausage!), and unforgettable scenery, it's an experience you'll never forget. We spotted waterfalls cascading down the mountainsides, bald eagles perched in towering trees, and even beluga whales swimming in Turnagain Arm. And here's a little insider tip—if you order the hot chocolate, be careful...it really is hot, and it's absolutely delicious!
The next morning, we boarded a Kenai Fjords National Park wildlife cruise, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my Alaska travels. We watched playful sea otters floating on their backs, colorful puffins nesting along the cliffs, harbor seals resting on floating ice, and were thrilled to see both humpback whales and orcas in the wild. Moments like those are what make Alaska so magical.
I truly love Alaska and, if I could, I'd visit every single year. My biggest dream is to one day travel to Katmai National Park and spend time at Brooks Falls watching the famous brown bears that I've followed for years on Explore.org.
